The Kerala government has decided to hand over the Nedumkandam custodial death case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that his government has decided to hand over the Nedumkandam custodial death case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after the demands from the victim's family.
Earlier, on August 13, the Kerala high court had granted bail to suspended sub-inspector KA Sabu, the main accused in the Nedumkandam custodial death case.
Justice B Sudheendra Kumar observed that the investigation is almost complete and further detention of the accused is not necessary in the case.
The court instructed the accused not to enter the limits of the sessions court division, Thodupuzha, without the permission of the magistrate. Sabu's advocate stated in the court that no custodial torture was inflicted on the deceased Rajkumar at the police station and that it was evident from medical records.
Meanwhile, forensic experts have said that severe torture led to the death of Rajkumar. The report stated that death was due to complications of multiple blunt injuries on the body which occurred at Nedumkandam Police station.

Kerala CM Vijayan had decided to provide a government job to Rajkumar’s wife. The government also decided to provide Rs 4 lakh to Rajkumar's mother and children, Kasthuri, Jessy and Joshy. At present, the money will be deposited in the name of the children and once the kids attain the age of 18, they can withdraw the money.
The family can use the interest earned on the deposit for children's education and other purposes. The money deposited in the account of Rajkumar's mother can be used for her daily expenses.
