Lanba said, “We also have reports of terrorists being trained to carry out attacks with varying modus operandi including through the medium of the sea. India has been facing the threat of terror through the seas.”

New Delhi: Indian Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba on Tuesday warned that there are reports of terrorists being trained to carry out an attack on India through the sea.

Addressing a gathering of global experts at the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue here, Lanba said that the Pulwama attack was perpetrated by extremists that were “aided by a State”, which seeks to destabilise India.

Lanba said, “We also have reports of terrorists being trained to carry out attacks with varying modus operandi including through the medium of the sea. India has been facing the threat of terror through the seas.” There are inputs that several aquatic wings of the terror outfits have also been set up, he added.

Lanba said that the most significant challenge of our time is terrorism. He also said that the Indo-Pacific region has witnessed multiple forms of terrorism in recent years. It is only a few countries in this part of the world, which have been spared by this scourge.

Lamba also emphasised that India faces a far more serious version of terrorism, i.e. state-sponsored terrorism. Without naming Pakistan, the navy chief said, “this (Pulwama) violence was perpetrated by extremists aided and abetted by a state which seeks to destabilise India.”

Lamba also added that we have seen how quickly terrorist groups evolve across the globe and this particular ‘brand’ of terror may well become a global problem in the near future. The Indian security establishment is continuously working to address this menace. It is imperative that the global community take efforts to contain and eliminate terrorism, in all its forms, he added.

The 2008 Mumbai attack, which targeted Taj hotel and few other places, saw the usage of sea route by the terrorists.

The  Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists took the sea route to infiltrate in India.

The Navy chief’s statement came less than a week since the Army, Navy and Air Force issued a joint press briefing about the air battle between Indian and Pakistan.

Post Pulwama attack, not only the Indian Navy is in a high state of alertness, the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force are all prepared to take action against Pakistan if it makes any move.
