India is all set to build a strategic tunnel under river Brahmaputra

Bengaluru: After the Galwan clashes, India is giving more importance to its defence.

Reports are out claiming that the Narendra Modi government is all set to build a strategic tunnel under river Brahmaputra. The specialty of this tunnel is that it gives an all-weather connectivity from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh, bordering China.

Another highlight of getting this tunnel built is that the Indian military can use it to transport supplies on a four lane at speeds of 80 km per hour.

A popular website notes that the construction of the 14.85 km long tunnel is expected to begin by December of this year and will be executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHAIDCL) along with Louis Berger. It will be built in three phases.

The move to build this tunnel is all the more important because bridges are being targeted by enemy forces.

A note on Galwan clashes:

It all began when Indian soldiers dismantled a Chinese tent at Patrol Point 14, which is close to the mouth of the Galwan river. It was reported that the tent had been dismantled following a meeting between Lieutenant General Harinder Singh, who commands the Leh-based XIV Corps, and Major-General Lin Liu, the head of the Xinjiang military district.

But just within two days, it should be noted that the PLA set up a fresh tent at Patrol Point 14. This was in clear violation of the agreement.

So, the tent was burned down. Col Santosh Babu also laid down his life. His father, proud of his son’s martyrdom added that it is a privilege to die for the country.

Recent reports have thrown light on the fact that China is refusing to give decent burials to its soldiers killed in Galwan clashes in order to hide the blunder it has committed by using force against India.
