Mumbai rains: Schools shut down, water logging continues

Mumbai witnessed waterlogging in several parts of the city on Thursday (September 5) after hours of rainfall in the city.

Mumbai: Heavy rains continue to lash Mumbai, resulting in waterlogging in many pockets of the city. Schools and primary colleges remain shut today (September 5) as a precautionary measure.

The Indian Meteorological Department(IMD) has predicted heavy rain in Mumbai today. On Wednesday (September 4), heavy rain and waterlogging hit normal life in Mumbai. On the same day, local train services were cancelled and roads saw massive jams. Three people are reported to have died in rain-related accidents.

Meanwhile, the Western Railway has said three trains had been cancelled due to heavy rains. The trains are Surat-Mumbai Central, Mumbai Central-Surat and Bandra T - VAPI.

Flights have also been cancelled in the city and more than 200 delayed due to bad weather. Many passengers had to spend their night sleeping outside the Mumbai domestic airport because their flights were delayed.

The Mumbai Police has issued a rain advisory saying people should check the weather forecast and plan their day accordingly.

"Dear Mumbaikars, due to heavy rainfall forecast by IMD, the state government has declared a holiday for schools and junior colleges. We request Mumbaikars to please check weather forecast and plan their day. Stay safe," the Mumbai Police said in a tweet.
