Tooter is India’s answer to Twitter.
Bengaluru: In what is the desi version of Twitter, India has launched Tooter.
As reported by Organiser, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi too has opened an account in it.

Tooter is modelled in the similar lines of ‘Twitter’ with only slight variation. It can be accessed both through app and web. “Tooter is a swadeshi social network. You can create an account on Tooter and post short messages, called Toots which can contain text, pictures, videos, etc.
Like twitter, tooter users will also have the opportunity for verified accounts. But for that you need a Tooter Pro account. Apart from PM Modi, other celebrities who have joined Tooter includes Amit Shah, Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Amitabh Bachan, Rahul Gandhi, Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Virat Kohli.
India.com, another website notes thus:
“The main purpose behind this ‘swadeshi’ social networking site is mentioned in its “About” section. It says, “We believe that India should have a Swadeshi social network. Without one we are just a digital colony of the American Twitter India Company, no different than what we were under the British East India Company. Tooter is our Swadeshi Andolan 2.0. Join us in this Andolan. Join us!” The page also claims that Tooter Pvt Ltd is based in Plot No 48, SriCity, Barugudem in Khammam, Telangana.”
It further notes thus: “Tooter also promises to strive by the ‘First Amendment’ as envisaged by the US Constitution that protects freedom of speech, religion and the press. It states, “We strive to ensure that the First Amendment remains the Website’s standard for content moderation. We will make best efforts to ensure that all content moderation decisions and enforcement of these terms of service does not punish users for exercising their God-given right to speak freely.”
