West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee met PM Modi today. Though details of the meeting have not been revealed, Banerjee said that they discussed the issue of renaming West Bengal.
New Delhi: West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Wednesday.
"We want to change the name of our state from #WestBengal to #Bangla. Discussed with PM Modi about it," said West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
"It was a non-political discussion. Issues of unemployment were raised. I will also be seeking an appointment with the home minister," she added.
The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted pictures of the two leaders at the official residence of Modi.

The proposed meeting assumes significance as it was held at a time when several leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress and former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar are under CBI scanner in connection with the Saradha ponzi scam.
The Saradha group of companies had allegedly duped lakhs of people to the tune of Rs 2500 crore, promising higher rates of returns on their investments.
The last time the two leaders had met was at the convocation ceremony at Visva Bharati University held in Shantiniketan on May 25, 2018.
But before meeting the Prime Minister, Banerjee had met PM Modi's alleged wife Jashodaben at the Kolkata airport on September 17 before boarding her flight to New Delhi. They exchanged pleasantries.
Jashodaben was leaving the city after a two-day visit to Dhanbad in neighbouring Jharkhand, a source close to the chief minister told PTI.
