Mamata Banerjee learns her lessons, accepts ‘there are some extremists among minorities’

In a detour from her regular appeasement politics, WB chief minister Mamata Banerjee has openly said there are extremist elements in minorities too.

Bengaluru: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has always chosen to appease the minorities.

But in a detour, she decided to call spade a spade and openly said there are extremist elements in the minorities too!

In West Bengal, she said, “I am watching that there are some extremists among the minorities. They have their base in Hyderabad. Don’t listen to them.”

The chief minister also visited the Madan Mohan temple in Coochbehar after addressing party workers. She also paid a visit to the Rash Mela on the Rajbari grounds.

This change in attitude of the CM points at a tactic to win back Hindu confidence and votes.

West Bengal is slated to go for Assembly polls in 2021. Didi would have certainly realised that she can ill-afford the wrath of the majority community.

She has already inflicted terrible dents on her reputation as she had, on several occasions, openly disallowed Durga idols immersion during Muharram. The court too had come down heavily on her for this move of hers.

That a number of BJP and RSS workers too have died in West Bengal during her regime has not won her any brownie points.

Earlier this year, when the Lok Sabha polls results were announced, the BJP -led by PM Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah - made phenomenal inroads, winning as many as 18 seats.

It might also be recalled that Mamata tried her best to place herself in a robust position, leading a third Front, having other stalwarts like former PM HD Deve Gowda. But it didn’t bear any fruits as the country voted for Modi, whose party emerged with more than 300 seats.

Didi is also sending feelers to the BJP. Earlier this year, she had met Union home minister Amit Shah and PM Narendra Modi. Much before this, she had been on a warpath with the BJP by not allowing Amit Shah’s chopper to land in West Bengal.
