Latest news reports on Maharashtra government formation suggest that the NCP wants to employ the formula of a rotational CM for 2.5 years each.

Bengaluru: The political imbroglio in Maharashtra has only worsened. While the Shiva Sena knocked at the doors of the Supreme Court, the talks to form the government are only getting intense.
Sources say that the NCP is not comfortable forming an alliance with the Shiva Sena alone. So it wants the Congress too to come onboard. Sources add that Sonia has deputed senior leaders like Ahmed Patel and Mallikarjun Kharge and these leaders are in Mumbai, meeting senior leaders from other alliance parties.

It is interesting to note that the Congress might seek 11 cabinet berths, apart from Speaker’s post while the NCP might settle for 12-13 cabinet berths.
Sources tell us that the NCP wants its candidate to be the CM for 2.5 years. However, there is no clarity on whether it will be the first 2.5 years or the second one. This effectively means that Sharad Pawar wants CMs on a rotational basis.

While the talks go on, the Maharashtra governor has recommended President’s rule in the state. The recommendation has been sent to the home ministry, and when reports last came in, the home ministry has forwarded the file for recommendation to the President’s office.

But the legal battle over President’s rule is far, far from over. The Shiva Sena has approached the supreme court, through its counsel Kapil Sibal, seeking an urgent hearing on the matter. The Shiva Sena’s grouse is that the governor did not give it sufficient time to stake claim.

Well, it all began with the Shiva Sena and the BJP not arriving at a consensus in the formation of a government. while the Shiva Sena wanted its candidate to be the CM, the BJP refused to toe its line and was firm on the fact that the BJP CM should complete the entire term of 5 years.
