Post the meeting of NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena leaders, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has said that there is consensus over Uddhav Thackeray's candidacy for the chief minister's post in Maharashtra

Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said after the meeting that Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray has been chosen to lead Maharashtra.

Sharad Pawar expressed this after the meeting of Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena leaders in Mumbai.

At an earlier meeting, Shiv Sena MLAs had put forth their demand that they want Uddhav Thackeray as the chief minister. After the meeting with Sena, NCP too agreed to lend support to the same.

Speaking on the occasion, Congress leader Chhagan Bhujbal said, "Congress-NCP are of the view that Uddhav Thackeray should be the chief minister. Not sure if we will support any other name for the post."

Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut and Arvind Sawant of the Shiv Sena also had emerged as frontrunners for the post of chief minister.

The two names were mentioned after Uddhav Thackeray said that he was not keen on holding the CM portfolio.
