In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26, ride-hailing service Rapido has announced its commitment to facilitating transportation for senior citizens and differently-abled voters in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Mangaluru. Through its "SawaariZimmedariKi" initiative, Rapido aims to ensure that every eligible voter can exercise their democratic right without facing transportation barriers.
Residents in these three cities can avail themselves of complimentary bike taxi, auto, and cab rides by using the code 'VOTENOW' on April 26, as outlined in Rapido's announcement. This initiative, in collaboration with the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), underscores Rapido's dedication to promoting civic engagement and inclusivity during the 2024 general elections.
Pavan Guntupalli, co-founder of Rapido, emphasized the importance of enabling every voter, especially senior citizens and differently-abled individuals, to participate in the electoral process. By providing free transportation services, Rapido aims to remove logistical barriers and ensure equal opportunities for all voters.
The initiative not only serves to facilitate democracy in action but also aims to increase voter turnout and advocate for a more representative electoral system. Through this proactive approach, Rapido exemplifies its commitment to social responsibility and inclusivity in the world's largest democracy.
As Karnataka gears up for the Lok Sabha elections, Rapido's initiative stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between the private sector, government institutions, and civil society in promoting democratic values and ensuring the active participation of all citizens in the electoral process.
