A newly-wed couple arrived at the polling station in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir to cast their vote and participate in the electoral process of the Lok Saha elections 2024.
As the polling day is here, people from across the nation are enthusiastic to play their role in the decision-making of the country. People are trying to clear their schedules and be on time to cast their votes and fulfil their duty as citizens of a constitutional democracy.
One such jubilant couple's story has surfaced from Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, where the bride and the groom cast their vote in their colourful traditional wedding attires.
Kapil Gupta got married on Thursday and the first thing he did after returning home on Friday morning was to exercise his right to vote at a polling booth in Jammu and Kashmir Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes & Backward Classes Development Corporation Limited in Udhampur.
"Voting is our right and must be done on priority, said Kapil, encouraging others to vote in the Lok Sabha election.
The voting began at 7 am despite the harsh weather in the Udhampur Lok Sabha area. The area consists of five districts; Udhampur, Ramban, Kathua, Doda, and Kishtwar.
One more newly-wed couple arrived at a polling booth set up in a school in Udhampur district. The duo was in their wedding attires and cast their vote.
The bride said to the media, "We got married only yesterday (Thursday) and I told my husband that we should vote. My vote is not here but I accompanied him."
"I will be visiting my parents later in the day in a nearby village to fulfil my democratic responsibility as well," she added.
The voting is set to end at 6 pm and as per reports, over 10% of voters have contributed to the electoral process by exercising their franchise despite the heavy rain in the area.
