New Delhi: Diamond Harbour is the most important constituency of Bengal this Lok Sabha election. The TMC No 2 and Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee contested from this seat.
Banerjee got embroiled in a controversy when instead of participating in the campaign directly, this Trinamool candidate from Diamond Harbour had distributed his own statues among the party workers who carried a replica each with them as they reached out to different pockets of the constituency.
Recently CPI(M) boss Sitaram Yechury demanded repolling citing large-scale irregularities. “Spoke to CEC Shri Sunil Arora Ji, appraised him of the large scale attempts at rigging and violence in Dum Dum, Diamond Harbour, Kolkata Uttar, Jadavpur. He has assured us. We hope at this final stage of the poll, they can ensure that people are allowed to vote, freely and fairly,” the CPI(M) chief had said in a tweet after the polls concluded.
Fuad Halim, son of former West Bengal Assembly Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim, is the CPI(M) candidate from Diamond Harbour.
