Kuala Lumpur:  As the talks that the Malaysian government may be interested in acquiring more aircrafts for their fleet, India is hoping to impress a global audience with the indigenously developed light combat aircraft 'Tejas'.

The Light combat flight's handling and manoeuvrability as well as aerobatics, will be showcased by a team of 50 in Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA), in Malaysia set to begin on March 26.

Aniruddh Chauhan, defence attaché at the Indian high commission at Kuala Lumpur has said: "Malaysia has shortlisted Tejas amongst other aircrafts like the China-Pakistan built JF-17, and South Korea’s F/A-50, but is perched comfortably as the favourite".

Local media reports, on the other hand, suggest that Malaysia prime minister Mahathir's meeting with Pakistan may hamper India's chances at the LIMA exhibition. India has sent a delegation of 350 to Malaysia. Also attending the event are India's secretary for defence production to meet the defence authorities in Malaysia.

Experts believe that LIMA's global exposure has also increased in accordance with China's growing presence in the South China Sea.
