Aishwarya Roy, estranged wife of Lalu Prasad Yadav's older son Tej Pratap Yadav has alleged torture and ill-treatment by sister-in law Misa Bharti, who is also a Rajya Sabha member.
Patna: Aishwarya Roy, estranged wife of Lalu Prasad Yadav's older son Tej Pratap Yadav, has alleged that her sister-in-law Misa Bharti tortured her in the presence of mother-in-law, former Bihar CM Rabri Devi. She alleged that she was being ill treated by the Lalu family for months together.
Aishwarya claimed that she was thrown out of the house and later was taken in after the intervention of police.
Aishwarya was married to Tej Pratap Yadav in May 2018.
The issue came to light when Aishwarya spoke to media from a shed outside the house of Lalu Prasad. Before being jailed in 2017, even Lalu Yadav held public meetings in this shed.
Despite being estranged from husband, Aishwarya was residing in Lalu Yadav's house. Tej Pratap had left the house earlier this year after his family decided to take back Aishwarya inside the house.
Aishwarya said that she was living in the house despite the conditions, hoping for a reconciliation with husband. She alleged that mother-in-law Rabri Devi directed that she be thrown out of the house. Sister-in-law Misa Bharti who is the Rajya Sabha member, had tortured her, abused her and did not provide her any food. Misa is responsible for her failed marriage, she said. Aishwarya is said to have survived on food sent by her maternal family.
In July this year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a supplementary charge sheet in a Delhi court on Wednesday in an alleged money laundering case against RJD Chief Lalu Prasad's daughter Misa Bharti and others.
However, Misa had refuted all the charges and said that she was rarely in Patna and thus there was no basis to what Aishwarya had claimed.
Hearing the news of her being thrown out, Aishwarya's father Chandrika Roy is said to have rushed to Lalu Yadav's house and the door of the building remained barred till evening on Sunday.
It was only after police entered the premises that Aishwarya was let inside the house.
Earlier, after Aishwarya was thrown out of the house, she called her parents and women's helpline.
