Kerala: Son arrested for raping mentally-ill mother

A 40-year-old man sexually assaulted his own mother. The mother is said to be mentally-ill. His father lodged a complaint at the Anchalummood police station in Kerala's Kollam district

Kollam: The Kerala police arrested a Kollam native, for allegedly sexually abusing his mother on Thursday (May 30). The incident came to light as the accused 40-year-old man's father lodged a complaint at the Anchalummood police station in Kerala's Kollam district. 

When the police questioned the accused Vinod Chandra, he confessed to the crime. According to the police, the youth had raped his 65-year-old mother, who is suffering from memory loss, several times in the recent past. It is alleged that the youth is also alleged as a second accused in another murder crime. In that murder case that occurred three years ago, he was the second accused in the rape and murder case of a housewife whose body was found in a septic tank. 

Incidents of rape of children and women have been rising steadily and shockingly in God's own Country for the past several years. As per the State Crime Record Bureau data, the increase in the number of women’s rape cases in Kerala in the past ten years has been nearly by 360 percent. If the rape cases registered in this category in 2008 stood at over 500, 1,987 such cases were registered last year.

In a similar incident, Satara police arrested a 27-year-old man for raping his mother in Kolhapur in Maharashtra. This incident came to light when the 50-year-old mother lodged a complaint. 

A 45-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her 30-year-old son at their residence in Surani village in Barwani district, Madhya Pradesh.
