Five people have lost their lives due to the rains in Kerala in the last five days. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Tuesday and educational institutions in the two districts and in Malappuram remained closed today.
Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert to Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Tuesday. An orange alert has been declared in Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad districts, and a yellow alert in Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Idukki.
According to reports, all educational institutions including schools and professional colleges have been closed in Kannur, Kasaragod and Malappuram districts on Tuesday after the IMD warning.
Five people have lost their lives due to heavy rains in the state. As the southwest monsoon intensified, 350 people were shifted to several relief camps in the state. All the five deaths reported till Monday were due to drowning.
In Kannur, 22-year-old Rithul drowned when he slipped and fell into a pond at Payyanuur, while two deaths were reported in Kozhikode and one from Kasaragod. In Thrissur, 19-year-old Vishnu drowned in a river while bathing at Mukundapuram taluk.
Meanwhile, four out of the seven fishermen from Kerala who went missing have safely returned home on July 20. The four fishermen went into the sea during heavy rains on the night of July 17 from Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram. According to reports, they were trapped after one of the boat engines developed errors. The fishermen repaired it and returned to shore on July 20. They are identified as Louis, Benny, Yesudas and Antony.
Three other fishermen who ventured into the sea from Neendakara, Kollam, whose boat capsized, are yet to be found.
