Alappuzha: Judicial first-class magistrate Alappuzha on Monday, recorded NA Ajas’s statement, who is accused of murdering the woman police constable O Soumya Pushpakaran.

NA Ajas, civil police officer (CPO), is currently undergoing treatment at the Alappuzha Medical College, Kerala. He is suffering from burn injuries following the attack.

The Kerala Police have not yet arrested the accused police officer as his condition continues to be serious. He is presently undergoing dialysis as the burn injury has affected his kidneys.

Sources suggest that Ajas confessed to killing Soumya as she had refused to marry him and avoiding him ever since. He also reportedly told the Ambalappuzha magistrate that he had no other motive and nobody else was involved.

Soumya's mortal remains have been kept at the mortuary of a private hospital in Kollam. The funeral will be held after her husband Sajeev returns from Libya on Wednesday.

Soumya, who was working at Vallikunnam police station, Alappuzha, was murdered by NA Ajas, 33, a civil police officer attached to Aluva traffic police station, on Saturday.

Reports claimed that accused Ajas hit the deceased's two-wheeler down. He hacked her with a sharp weapon when she fell. Though she tried to escape, he chased her, poured petrol over her and set her ablaze.

The incident took place when she was on her way back home after work. Since the accused wanted to kill himself too, he poured the remaining petrol over him and ended up with 40% burn injuries, reports claimed.
