Thiruvananthapuram: Pinarayi Vijayan-led government has decided to fund the training cost of a 20-year-old Adam Harry. The Kerala government has sanctioned Rs 23.34 lakh to help Adam Harry pursue a three-year course at the Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology in Thiruvananthapuram and get a commercial pilot licence.

After Harry's family disowned him for being a transman, he applied for government funding to achieve his aim. According to reports, to become an airline pilot, one requires a commercial licence.

According to aviation regulator DGCA's (Directorate General of civil Aviation) rule, a person who is applying for the commercial pilot licence needs to produce proof of having no less than two hundred hours of flight time.

Meanwhile, Adam Harry is recognised as the country's first transgender to secure a private pilot licence as he had received the licence in 2017 after undergoing training in Johannesburg.

Adam Harry said to media that he had hoped that he would receive the funding to pursue his childhood dream of becoming an airline pilot. He also recalled the number of obstacles he had faced from his family and friends when he revealed his identity. He also thanked the Kerala government for the help.
