Thiruvananthapuram: Former additional chief secretary of Kerala, D Babu Paul (78) breathed his last on Saturday in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Paul has served several important posts including member ombudsman for local self-government institutions, vice chancellor of Kerala University, revenue department principal secretary, Cochin port trust chairman, finance secretary, chief executive in KSRTC, Travancore Titanium managing director and held other top positions. He was serving as the independent member of the Kerala infrastructure investment fund board.
The former chief secretary also wrote many books and articles for magazines and newspapers. His autobiographical service story is Kadha Ithuvare.
Babu Paul was born to Rt Rev Paulose Cheerothottam Kor Episcopa, a Jacobite priest and headmaster, and Mary Paul, a teacher. He was a third rank holder in class X and completed his pre-degree from Union Christian College, Aluva.
After completing his bachelors in civil engineering and he cracked the civil service examination with seventh rank.
Paul's wife Nirmala Babu Paul passed away in 2000. Babu Paul was survived by children Mariam Joseph and Cheriyan C Paul. His son-in-law is Satish Joseph, son of former DGP MK Joseph, and daughter-in-law is Deepa, daughter of former DGP CA Chali. His wife is late Anna Babu Paul (Nirmala).
