Thiruvananthapuram; A Kerala court issued an arrest warrant against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. This comes in connection with a case filed against him for allegedly defaming Hindu women in one of his books 30 years ago.

The Thiruvananthapuram chief judicial first class magistrate issued the arrest warrant. The warrant was issued after Shashi Tharoor failed to present himself or through his lawyer in court.

The name of the book is 'The Great Indian Novel'. It was first published in 1989. Shashi Tharoor's office reacted to the development and said the court did issue an order, but it did not have a date. According to reports, December 21 was the first day of hearing in the case.

Reportedly, Tharoor's book is a satirical book based on the Mahabharatha story. The complainant has alleged that Tharoor’s novel was defamatory with regard to women of the Nair caste.
