A couple from Kerala have made it their mission to help people during the ongoing pandemic

Bengaluru: These are tough times, aren’t they?

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the world to a grinding halt, with scores of people losing jobs, lives and a decent livelihood.

But at the same time, the pandemic has also seen human beings helping out each other, mitigating their differences and keeping humanity as the connecting bond.

In Kerala, a couple from Thiruvananthapuram have gone the extra mile, to ensure their fellow beings are not put into trouble.

For the last 16 years, Merin Mathew and Kevin Simon had been running their lives as wedding planners. But all due to the onset of the pandemic, their work suffered a lot.

At the same time, they also realised that people in their area were not leading a good life. They too had to face difficulties.

It is this hardship that made the couple think hard and prod them to take up selfless work.

"During the Kerala flood in 2018, we had provided groceries and medicines to victims. We decided to do the same and deliver groceries, ration and medicines at people’s doorsteps," said Merin, as reported by The New Indian Express.

What is interesting to note is the tremendous response they got when they posted their intention to help others out on their Facebook page.

"We didn’t expect such a huge response. People across the state started calling us for essential commodities round the clock. Initially, we catered only to the residents in Thiruvananthapuram. Besides delivering essential commodities, we also started setting up quarantine homes," says Merin.

The couple also put in a lot of hard work to gather medicine essentials and started distributing them to others. In this way, they helped out 25 families. Later, they stretched their altruistic activity to other districts like Ernakulam as well.

Serving has now become their way of life. They have even named their venture 'Cartwheel Delivery Services', providing services at a minimal expense.
