The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rains in Karnataka over the next few days, Kodagu has been issued a red and orange alert.

Kodagu: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning stating Karnataka would receive heavy rainfall in different parts of the state. Kodagu is on high alert.

Following the warning from the IMD, the deputy commissioner of Kodagu, Annies Kanmani Joy, has issued red and orange alerts in the district.

Kodagu had faced floods last year that destroyed houses, roads, and the district lost many people and animals to the deadly flood.

While people are still trying to overcome the tragedy, and many are still without their houses, the weather department’s warning has residents in fear.

Accordingly, people have been warned against venturing out of their houses and red and orange alerts will be effective for the next few days.

The district will be on red alert from August 5 to August 9 and on orange alert on August 9 and 10.

A red alert is issued when there is a chance of more than 204 mm rainfall. Orange alert is issued when rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm is expected.

In Karnataka, Belagavi has been receiving heavy rains. Bridges and roads are inundated, and life has been adversely affected in the region. Mumbai too has received heavy rainfall. Water release has resulted in Krishna river overflowing in both Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Currently, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Raichur and Yadgir districts in Karnataka are facing floods.
