Muslim MLAs' petition to Karnataka CM Yediyurappa seeks to ensure transporters of animals are not obstructed ahead of Bakrid festival
Bengaluru: Muslim MLAs from Karnataka wrote a letter to the Yediyurappa-led BJP government and requested protection for transporters of sheep, goat, oxen, buffaloes and other animals ahead of Bakrid festival.
MLAs Tanveer Sait, Raheem Khan, NA Haris, CM Ibrahim, Nasir Ahmed, Abdul Zabbar petitioned Yediyurappa and sought protection for transporters of these animals as animal sacrifice is an integral part of the festival.
The petition was made following rise in incidents of cow vigilantes allegedly taking law into their hands and assaulting the cow transporters.
They requested Yediyurappa to send directions to the police department not to stop the vehicles carrying animals till the festival.
Following the petition, chief minister Yediyurappa directed DGP Neelamani Raju to take necessary steps to hold the festival without any problems.
