Within hours of the Supreme Court verdict, allowing the disgruntled Karnataka MLAs to contest the by-polls, CM BS Yediyurappa announced that the MLAs would join the party.
Bengaluru: Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa has made the announcement that all the seventeen Karnataka disqualified MLAs will be joining the BJP on November 14.
ANI quoted him as saying, “All 17 rebel MLAs (who were disqualified) to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tomorrow.”
Earlier today, the Supreme Court upheld the former Karnataka Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar’s decision of disqualifying these rebel MLAs but overruled his decision of disqualifying them till the end of the current Assembly (2023).

These rebel MLAs had tendered their resignations to the then Speaker Ramesh Kumar, but he had refused to accept their resignations.
After resigning, the seventeen rebel MLAs flew to Mumbai and stayed at a hotel in Mumbai. DK Shivakumar, the man touted to be the trouble-shooter of the Congress party, went all the way to the hotel and tried his best to meet them, but of no avail.
Some of the disgruntled elements blamed JD(S) leaders like HD Revanna for intruding into affairs of their ministries.
Owing to these resignations, the coalition government failed to prove its majority on the floor of the Assembly 99 – 105, paving way for BS Yediyurappa to stake claim and form the government.
On the other hand, there were reports that HD Kumaraswamy was thinking of a tie-up with the BJP. This comes in stark contrast to what his father HD Devegowda, a former PM who thinks that coalition with the Congress would be better.
But what is the reason for HDK to consider a tie-up?
He reportedly told media men that he doesn’t want midterm polls, considering that the people of the state are suffering from the consequences of both floods and drought.
As of now, the BJP requires eight seats to stay afloat. If it ties up with the JD(S), which has 34 seats, it will easily cross the half-way mark.
