With minister Nagesh's resignation, the number of the Congress-JD(S) coalition will come down to 105 which is one MLA short of majority, if all resignations are accepted by the Speaker

Bengaluru: In a major development today, independent MLA, H Nagesh who was recently made minister in the state Cabinet has resigned from his post of minister. He will withdraw the support extended to the Congress-JD(S) coalition government, said sources.

His decision comes after 12 MLAs resigned from coalition government on July 6 and one on July 1.

H Nagesh is the MLA from Mulbagil constituency and in case the Speaker accepts the resignations of rebel MLAs, Nagesh's support will be crucial in forming the government.

Nagesh was sworn in as minister on June 14, but CM Kumaraswamy had not allotted him any ministry for 15 days. He was later made Minor Irrigations minister, but after 21 days of serving as minister, Nagesh has tendered his resignation to the Governor in Raj Bhavan.

Reports claim that Nagesh has left for Mumbai to join the rebel leaders who quit recently.

If all resignation letters are accepted by the Speaker, the party needs 106 MLAs to form the government. But with resignations, the Congress- JD(S) coalition will be left with 105 MLAs (including the Speaker) whereas BJP has 105 MLAs. If Nagesh extends his support to the BJP, as he has allegedly stated he would, the party can form government in Karnataka with 106 MLAs on its side.

Meanwhile, latest reports claim that the Congress and the JD(S) is asking all its ministers to resign in a last-minute effort to stop the BJP from forming government.
