Bengaluru: The HD Kumaraswamy-led Karnataka coalition government has collapsed as anticipated a few days ago. The trust vote which was scheduled to take place on July 18 took place in the state Assembly today (23 July 2018).

The coalition government lost the majority by getting 99 votes in the trust vote session that was held today against the 105 MLAs who stood in opposition.

BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa was seen waving the victory sign with his hand along with his supporters standing along with him after the House concluded for the day.

Earlier today, the BJP accused Kumaraswamy of “looting” and “wasting taxpayers’ money” by holding the position. As there was a delay in Kumaraswamy's presence in the state Assembly, debating on the confidence motion moved by him on Friday, the BJP took to Twitter to send him the message.

The tweet read, "Session for #KarnatakaTrustVote has begun. But CM @hd_kumaraswamy is resting at his Taj West end hotel. His message is clear. He will continue to loot & waste tax payers’ money to the very last second as CM. He & his party will be answerable to Kannadigas very soon (SIC)."

Kumaraswamy was locked in hectic parleys with Congress' troubleshooter DK Shivakumar and a few others to find a way out of the crisis triggered by resignations of Congress and JD(S) MLAs.

The Supreme Court verdict that will be announced on July 24 will determine the fate of the rebel MLAS.
