Coimbatore: Days after the cold-blooded murder of a 7-year-old child who was also sexually assaulted, actor-politician Kamal Haasan visited the family and expressed his condolences.

The actor-turned-politician addressed media and said that such incidents give Tamil Nadu a bad name.

Kamal Haasan further went on to say that everyone must consider all children to be their own, which would then bring such incidents down.

“If our children cannot be allowed to play just 20 metres away from us, it just goes on to show that it's not a nice environment,” added Haasan

Haasan said that he was denied an appointment with the IG because of election work.

“I too am on election work, there are party members who are contesting. But this incident is more important than any other work,” said Kamal Haasan.

"

Furthermore, pointing out that the incident has left people in Tamil Nadu panicky, Kamal Haasan said, “The government and police officials must work towards eradicating this fear and panic amongst people.”

When asked about his comments stating that the police have made less progress in the course of investigations, Kamal Haasan said that this could be case specific.

“This such a small place and everyone knows everyone, it'll definitely be easy to nab the culprits when compared to a bigger city. But if the cops have not caught the culprits, they'd call it case specific. So, I don't want to accuse them of anything unnecessarily,” stated Haasan.

Kamal Haasan was in Coimbatore condoling the parents of a 7-year-old child who had been kidnapped, sexually assaulted and then murdered.

The girl who was playing outside her house after school, was kidnapped and found dead in an alley near her home, with her mouth gagged.

The autopsy report confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted before she had been killed.

The parents had named four people whom they had suspected on the grounds that they often tried to make conversations with the girl when she would be all by herself.

Police showed the video of these accused in custody, following which the family accepted the girl’s body for final rites.
