Havaldar Manzoor Ahmad Beigh was unarmed and on a 12-day leave from June 4 to celebrate Eid with his family. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. All ranks of Chinar Corps offered their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
The Army said, in this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and remains committed to their dignity and wellbeing.
Today's killing is reminiscent of a similar cowardly act by the Kashmiri terrorists in 2017 when Army officer Umar Fayaz was murdered by gunmen. The 22-year-old Lieutenant, who was on leave, was kidnapped when he had gone to attend a relative's wedding in Kashmir's Shopian district.
