The Cabinet meet, which the Prime Minister Narendra Modi headed, has ended and home minister Amit Shah is expected to make an important announcement on the floor of the Parliament

New Delhi: As the Cabinet meet headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi ended on Monday, Union home minister Amit Shah is expected to make a statement regarding the state of Jammu and Kashmir on the floor of the Parliament by 11 am  today (August 5).

The valley has remained in a state of tension ever since the home ministry decided to station troops in excess of 35,000. As tension prevails, section 144 has been in place since Sunday (August 4).

The authorities imposed night curfew in Kishtwar and Rajouri districts and Banihal area of Ramban district, while restrictions were imposed in Jammu, Resai and Doda districts, besides Srinagar on Sunday, they said.

"We have imposed night curfew in Kishtwar district from tonight as a precautionary measure", Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana, told PTI.

Several theories have been making the rounds in the last few days. While one theory is that Modi will be hoisting the flag at Lal Chowk, the other two theories are that the state will split into three parts – Jammu (a complete state with Hindu majority), Kashmir and Ladakh to be made into Union territories – while the third is the abrogation of articles 35A and 370.
