Is Pawar’s decision to question bhumi puja of Ram temple during pandemic all about survival in politics?

Why did Sharad Pawar decide to speak against the bhumi puja in relation to the Ram temple at Ayodhya?

Bengaluru: NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s comments on bhumi puja related to the construction of the Ram temple have created a controversy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to participate in the event on August 3 or 5.

But why would a senior and experienced politician like Sharad Pawar jump to talk about a sensitive issue like bhumi puja of a temple, the issue of which had been unresolved for decades or centuries together?

Well, at this point, we must confess and concede that the experienced politician is also experienced in appeasing politics!

After NCP and Shiva Sena joined hands to form a government in Maharashtra earlier this year, Pawar openly declared that it is the Muslims who decide whom to defeat in elections.

A popular website further added that he even said Muslims defeated BJP in the elections.

Interestingly, Pawar also told journalist Shekhar Gupta in an interview that he had invented the spiel of ‘12th bomb’ during the 1993 bomb blasts in order to save Muslims. In reality, all the 11 bomb blasts that took place were by Islamic terrorists, the website notes.

It is not just Pawar. Even his daughter Supriya is known to be a rank appeaser.

It might be recalled that she had taken the example of a brahmin lady called Kiran Kulkarni in order to exemplify the usage of burqa and even triple talaq.

Pawar is well aware that he can’t be seen as a villain among Muslims who form a sizeable population in the state (38%). Also, one should note that Muslims prefer Congress to NCP and Pawar has to work zealously to win back their trust.

But at the same time, the senior Politician also can’t earn the wrath of the majority community Hindus.

So, if one observes the development in relation to the bhumi puja closely, one easily understands that Pawar wants to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds.

But how?

Well, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has been in consonance over PM Modi’s visit to Ayodhya. He will, in all probability, attend the event as well. So that means it is implicit that Pawar too has acquiesced Uddhav’s visit, thereby pleasing and placating Hindus while he has stridently won over Muslims by questioning the bhumi pooja!

After all, it all boils down to survival in politics! And Pawar is nonpareil expert at that!
