India's Covid-19 cases continue to show downward trend, remain below 1 lakh mark for 5th consecutive day

Daily cases have fallen below 1 lakh in India over the last few days. Positivity rate has dropped 78% from the peak recorded in early May

Bengaluru: India's reported Covid-19 cases have continued to show a downward trend and remained below one lakh mark for the fifth consecutive day as the country recorded 84,332 new cases during the last 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.

Deaths due to Covid, however, are on the rise again. With 4,002 more Covid deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has climbed to 3,67,081.

Active cases have decreased by 40,981 in the last 24 hours to take the tally to less than 11 lakhs (10,80,690) after 63 days. Active cases account for 3.68% of the total infection.

A total of 1,21,311 patients were discharged yesterday, taking the total recovery numbers to 27,911,384. The national Covid-19 recovery rate, meanwhile, has improved to 95.07%, according to the ministry.

India's test positivity rate (positive cases identified for every 100 tests) continues to decline. It stands at 4.39%, the fifth straight day that it is below the 5 per cent-mark.

According to health ministry, testing has substantially been ramped up in the country. A total of 37.62 crore samples have been tested for Covid so far.

So far, 24.96 crore vaccine doses have been administered under a nationwide vaccination drive, which started on January 16 this year.
