Newly-elected BJP national president JP Nadda confirmed that Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal has joined India's single largest party
New Delhi: Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of party's national general scretary Arun Singh.
Newly-elected BJP national president JP Nadda had earlier confirmed the news of the Indian shuttler joining India's single largest party.
Speaking to reporters, Saina said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working hard for the country and thatb inspired her.
Latest reports suggest that Saina's sister Chandranshu has also joined the saffron party.
On the professional front, Saina was last seen playing in the Thailand Masters tournament, where her performance remained less than impressive as she was knocked in the very first round.
On January 22, she was knocked out of Thailand Masters after losing to Denmark's Line Kjaersfeldt 21-13, 17-21, 21-15.
In 2019, several sports persons including cricket player Gautam Gambhir and Commonwealth Games medal-winning wrestler Babita Phogat had joined the BJP.
Taking to Twitter, Indian cricket player Gautham had said, "I have joined @BJP4India to serve the country with the right intent and honesty. I hope through this I can make some meaningful difference to the lives of my people."
Gambhir had joined the BJP and had met the then party president Amit Shah.
"I am joining this party (BJP) after getting influenced by prime minister Narendra Modi's vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform," Gambhir said during the media interaction.
