Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi set an example by wearing a homemade face mask as he met chief ministers of different states via videoconferencing to discuss a possible lockdown extension. 

At the same time, other CMs too wore face masks. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray wore a surgical mask, UP CM Yogi Adityanath too wore a face mask while Karnataka CM and West Bengal CM BS Yediyurappa and Mamata Banerjee were also present on the occasion.

It is learnt from reliable sources that Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi CM and Uddhav Thackeray have asked for a lockdown extension. 

They have sought extension till April 30. 

The Prime Minister is likely to address the nation this evening after the meeting is over. 

Meanwhile, as per the Health Ministry, India has conducted 1,44,910 tests on 130,792 suspected COVID-19 patients in 146 government and 67 private laboratories. The country till Saturday reported 1,035 new cases in the last 24 hours, the sharpest ever increase in cases and 40 deaths, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 7,447 and 239 deaths. Over 642 patients have recovered and been discharged (As quoted by Republic TV).

It is interesting to note that Odisha and Punjab have extended the lockdown till April 30.

PM Narendra Modi, on March 24, announced that India would be under lockdown for a 21-day period till April 14. He urged that people should maintain social distancing by staying indoors.

Today (April 11) PM Modi is expected to address the nation once again after meeting CMs of several states. Modi is expected to make an announcement extending the lockdown till April 30 as several states have asked for it.
