India under lockdown: Modi’s mother Heeraben donates Rs 25k to PM CARES Fund

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben has donated Rs 25000 from her personal savings to the PM CARES Fund.

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben has donated Rs 25000 from her personal savings to the PM CARES Fund. 

The Prime Minister had created the account to facilitate donors to do their bit to help out the affected. 

He had said, "People from all walks of life expressed their desire to donate to India’s war against COVID-19. Respecting that spirit, the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund has been constituted. This will go a long way in creating a healthier India."

He had added, ''It is my appeal to my fellow Indians, Kindly contribute to the PM-CARES Fund. This Fund will also cater to similar distressing situations, if they occur in the times ahead. This link has all important details about the fund.''

It is to be noted that actor Akshay Kumar had donated Rs 25 crore to the account. 

He had said, “This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes. I pledge to contribute Rs 25 crores from my savings to @narendramodiji’s PM-CARES Fund. Let’s save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai.”

Other celebrities who have donated to the cause are Virat Kohli, designer Sabyasachi among others. 

Today (March 31) India is currently undergoing the seventh day of lockdown. 

Prime Minister had announced a lockdown on March 24 lasting till April 14 – a 21-day period. 

Apart from essential services, he had urged everyone else to stay put at home as it will help break the chain of transmission. 

The government is taking all possible steps to contain the spread of the virus which has caused infection in lakhs of people and killed thousands.
