Bengaluru: Coronavirus cases in India are now 33050 of which 8325 persons have recovered and 1074 dead. Lockdown restrictions, particularly in rural areas, have been eased to restart some economic activity, as reported by Republic TV.

The Union home ministry has asked states to ensure free movement of trucks/goods carriers and empty trucks. It has added that local authorities must not insist on separate passes at inter-state borders across the country. This is essential to maintain supply chain of goods & services in the country.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting to discuss strategies on boosting investment in India; various strategies to bring investments into India in a fast-track mode and to promote Indian domestic sectors were discussed.

The Union health ministry has given updates on the situation:

*1780 new cases and 33050 total cases. 630 new recoveries. 8324 total recoveries.
* Recovery rate at 25.19%.  3.2% mortality rate. 14% deaths below 45 years, 51.2% deaths over 60 years, Above 75 years 9.2% deaths
* Doubling rate at 11 days from 3.4 before lockdown.
* Karnataka, Ladakh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Kerala show 20-40 day doubling.

The nation is also waiting for PM Modi to address it on the issue of a second lockdown extension. The lockdown is scheduled to end on May 3, but in a meeting held with chief ministers, sources tell us that many CMs were insistent on extending the lockdown.

The PM, on this part, though accepted the need for an extension, also underlined the need for economic activities to resume so that improvement can be seen.

As of now, as we have mentioned, the Union home ministry has relaxed many rules making it easy for the common man. They include resumption of agricultural activities, movement of buses and trucks to ferry stranded migrants among others.
