New Delhi: Amid the heightened tension in India-Pakistan relations and a stand-off along the LoC and international border, the Ministry of Home Affairs has asked paramilitary forces to speed-up the border fencing project. This will be under one integrated system not only along the India-Pakistan border but also the border with Bangladesh.

The Narendra Modi government will introduce a new system that will help the security forces to check any intrusion. The fence will be equipped with the latest interception technology.

According to sources, the government is likely to bring ahead the date of completion of the CIBMS (Comprehensive Integrated Border Management system).

Meanwhile. Union home minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the project BOLD-QIT (Border Electronically Dominated QRT Interception Technique) under the CIBMS on India-Bangladesh border in the Dhubri district of Assam on Tuesday.

The system will cover the entire span of River Brahmaputra with its data network generated by microwave communication, optical fibre cables, digital modular radio (DMR) communication, day and night surveillance Cameras and intrusion detection system.

“BOLD-QIT is the project to install technical systems under the CIBMS, which enables the BSF to equip India-Bangladesh borders with different kind of sensors in unfenced riverine area of Brahmaputra and its tributaries,” the MHA said. These modern gadgets provide feeds to BSF control rooms along the borders and enable the BSF's quick reaction teams to thwart any possibility of illegal cross border crossing/ crimes.

According to the MHA, the BSF is responsible for safeguarding of 4,096 km-long international border with Bangladesh. At various places, it is not possible to erect border fences due to the geographical barriers.

“The 61 km of border area in district Dhubri, Assam, where River Brahmaputra enters Bangladesh consists of vast char lands and innumerable river channels, thus making border guarding in this area a daunting task, especially during rainy season,” the MHA said.

According to aources, to overcome this problem, in the year 2017, the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to go for technological solution besides the physical presence of manpower of BSF.

In Jan, 2018, the information technology wing of the BSF undertook the project BOLD-QIT and completed it in record time with the technical support of various manufacturers and suppliers.

Earlier the home minister inaugurated two smart fencing pilot projects of 5 km each on India-Pakistan international border in Jammu in the month of September last year.
