By the end of the month, India will finalize the agreement to purchase the first six Shinkansen (bullet) trains from Japan.
As India is expected to sign the agreement to buy the first six Shinkansen (bullet) trains from Japan by the end of the month, the Indian Railways are "confident" that the nation's first bullet train will start service in June or July 2026 in Gujarat.
By August 15 of this year, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) will put out proposals for all contracts, including the one pertaining to the purchase of trains and the operating system.
The first bullet train project in India is now under construction and will link Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Bullet train services between Mumbai and Ahmedabad would stop at all stops as well as a select few stations throughout its 508-kilometer route. All-stop trains will take 45 minutes longer to get to their destination than limited-stop services, which will finish the trip in only two hours.
According to officials, about 40% of the project has been physically completed as of January. Out of this, Maharashtra has achieved about 22.5%, whereas Gujarat has made more progress (48.3%). They continued by saying that the project has finished more than 100 km of viaduct (an elevated stretch).
In addition, six river bridges have been constructed, and over 100 km of the corridor's viaduct (an elevated section) was completed in the last year. Twenty bridges total, up to seven of which have been built, cross the Gujarat section of the route.
Maharashtra has made amazing progress in the last few months. According to a railway ministry official, the state administration has instructed all district collectors to finish the land transfer by the end of this month.
