As Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) asks India to safeguard the rights of Muslims in the country, India has hit back saying when PM speaks, he speaks about the rights and welfare of 130 crore Indians.

Bengaluru: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has exhorted India to take urgent steps to protect the rights of Indian Muslims and stop incidents of Islamophobia.

This piece of advice is needless as India has always taken care of its minorities as the country continues to be a secular garden with a myriad religions as its flowers.

As the advice comes, minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has hit back.

He said, "We are doing our job with conviction. The Prime Minister whenever he speaks, he talks about the rights and welfare of 130 crore Indians."

He also added, "If somebody cannot see this, then it is their problem. India's Muslims, its minorities, all its sections, are prosperous and those people trying to vitiate this atmosphere of prosperity, they cannot be friends of Indian Muslims."

The minister also asserted that "secularism and harmony is not a "political fashion", but a "perfect passion" for India and Indians.

The OIC had tweeted that there was a negative profiling of Muslims in India.

It said, “#OIC-IPHRC condemns the unrelenting vicious #Islamophobic campaign in #India maligning Muslims for spread of #COVID-19 as well as their negative profiling in media subjecting them to discrimination & violence with impunity.”

India has always treated its Muslim minorities well.

However, OIC has not been a neutral entity when it comes to observing human rights of Muslims.

It is a well-known fact that when it comes to the persecution of Muslims, China leads the pack. There are horror tales when it comes to the persecution of the Uighur Muslims. Stories of mass murders, detention camps and abuse are often brushed aside by China.

The OIC on the other hand has remained silent on this issue. In 2015, the OIC had issued a drab statement in which it said that it was concerned whether these people would be able to celebrate Ramadan. Turkey which is part of the OIC it may be recalled refrained from signing the 22 states’ letter condemning acts by the Chinese against the Uighur Muslims.

Similarly, there was no word from the OIC as the Islamic State targeted the Yazidi women and took them as sex slaves.
