India continues zero tolerance for Rohingya infiltrators, 3 more deported to Myanmar

Three more Rohingyas were deported on Thursday to Myanmar via Manipur’s Moreh along the India-Myanmar border. They were lodged in a foreigner detention camp inside the Tezpur Jail in Assam's Sonitpur district after they had been found guilty of illegally entering the country

Guwahati: Three more Rohingyas were deported on Thursday to Myanmar via Manipur’s Moreh along the India-Myanmar border. One among the three deported is a girl. 

The three Rohingyas, who had illegally entered India in 2013, were lodged in a foreigner detention camp inside the Tezpur jail in Assam’s Sonitpur district after they had been found guilty of illegally entering the country.

The Myanmar nationals have been identified as Eman Hussain (55 years), Mohammad Sareash (20 years) and Rafiqqa Begum (18 years), and they are residents of Damudar village under Baithidung No 3 police station in Myanmar.

The Sonitpur district police of Assam on Wednesday sent them to Manipur’s Moreh town for deportation. Top officials from both Myanmar and Manipur were present during the deportation process.

On January 3 this year, five Rohingyas were deported to Myanmar through Moreh. They had also been lodged at Tezpur jail since 2014. 

In October 2018, seven Rohingyas were deported to Myanmar through Moreh along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The seven Rohingyas were arrested by Assam police on July 29 in 2012 for violating the Foreigners Act, and they were lodged at Silchar detention camp. 

There are 17 other Rohingyas from Myanmar who are still lodged in different jails in Assam.

Among the 17, ten are lodged in the detention camp at Tezpur, six in Silchar and one in Goalpara in Assam. 
Last year, Manipur police had arrested a couple hailing from Uttar Pradesh for their alleged involvement in the trafficking of Rohingyas from Myanmar into Manipur.

On April 8 last year, Manipur police commandos had arrested two Rohingyas, who had entered the northeastern state via Moreh border without valid documents. 

On the other hand, Manipur police had also arrested three other Rohingyas on March 22 near Moreh town in Tengnoupal district along the Myanmar border.

On January 21, 2019, 30 Rohingyas including 12 minors were arrested by police from a Guwahati-bound passenger bus in Assam’s Karimganj district along the Assam-Tripura border.

 On February 2, seven Assam bound Rohingya children were arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) from a railway station in Tripura.
