While the Narendra Modi led NDA government has convinced the United Kingdom courts to bring accused Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi back to India, there are several other fraudsters like Lalit Modi and Nadeem Akhtar Saifi who are still at large.
New Delhi: While the Narendra Modi led NDA government has convinced the United Kingdom courts to bring accused Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi back to India, there is a list of accused who have left India but the UPA government has never made serious efforts to bring them back. Most of them are facing serious criminal charges and the list includes Nadeem Akhtar Saifi who is involved in the Gulshan Kumar murder case, Ex-IPL chief Lalit Modi and Sheetal Mafatlal. In certain earlier cases, the Indian government has been accused of negligence while presenting evidence in extradition cases.
He is allegedly involved in money laundering and a corruption case related to the Indian Premier League (IPL), a famous cricket tournament held in India. Lalit Modi who has had close relations with many leaders of political parties left India in 2010 citing threat to his life. Lalit Modi is facing investigation from the Enforcement Directorate for financial irregularities. There are several technicalities in his extradition due to which the government has failed to bring him back.
Nadeem, a famous name in Bollywood, is facing criminal conspiracy charges in ex T-Series owner Gulshan Kumar's murder case . Nadeem was enjoying his vacation in the UK when Kumar was shot dead at a juice shop in 1997. After an initial investigation, it was found that Nadeem who was also a music composer hatched the conspiracy for the murder of Gulshan Kumar. He didn't return and stayed back at Kingsbury in Middlesex. Later, A UK court refused to extradite Saifi because of alleged negligence in the Indian government’s approach in presenting evidence. After an extended legal battle, he successfully avoided extradition.
