India administers 3 million vaccine shots, makes it the highest in a single day

India vaccinated more than 3 million in a single day on Monday

Bengaluru: In what is a record, India inoculated more than 3 million in a single day on Monday. 

Over 19.11 lakh doses were given till 7pm taking the total number of jabs administered so far to 3.48 crore, adds Times of India. 

It is also to be noted that as many as 1.5 crore health and frontline workers have received at least one dose, 61.68 lakh have also received the second dose.

The main recipients are people above 60 years of age, accounting for nearly 33% of the total doses given till Tuesday evening. The website also notes that 21.43 lakh doses have also been given to those between 45 to 60 years age with specific co-morbidities.

India exports over twice the number of doses used at home. 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation after meeting chief ministers of several states. 

Sources add that he sought the increasing of testing, clinical care facilities need to be strengthened in tier 2 and 3 cities.

On the other hand, EAM S Jaishankar has said that India supplied 150 nations with medicines, 82 of them as grants by India. This generous approach was extended to the Vande Bharat Mission as well. He also stated that starting from Wuhan, we brought back nationals of other countries by looking after our own. 

Meanwhile, as per health ministry's updated data, India reports 28,903 new cases, 17,741 recoveries and 188 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of vaccinated now stand at 3,50,64,536.
