The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of urgent weather warnings due to impending heavy rains impacting various regions across the country. An orange alert has been declared for Delhi, signaling severe weather conditions including slippery roads, reduced visibility, and localized waterlogging in low-lying areas. Intermittent showers and thunderstorms are forecasted for Delhi until August 5.
Several states are on high alert as heavy rains are anticipated. The IMD has also issued alerts for Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Goa. In Western India, Maharashtra is expected to experience "extremely heavy rainfall" until August 3, with Goa and Gujarat facing similar conditions on August 2-3 and August 3, respectively. "Extremely heavy rainfall" is predicted for Central India, especially Madhya Pradesh, between August 1 and 2.
In Southern India, Coastal Karnataka is bracing for "very heavy rainfall" on August 1-2, while South Interior Karnataka will experience similar conditions until August 2. Kerala remains under a yellow alert following recent heavy downpours that caused significant damage and led to over 167 casualties in Wayanad. Rainfall is expected to continue across most districts in Kerala until August 4.
Northwest India is also affected, with "very heavy rainfall" forecasted for Uttarakhand until August 3, and similar conditions expected in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on August 1. Heavy rains will persist in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan until August 4.
Northeastern India will not escape the weather impact, with "very heavy rainfall" predicted in Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Mizoram on August 1. Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and other northeastern states will experience "heavy rainfall" until August 2.
