The IMD predicts Southwest Monsoon will reach more parts of India soon, bringing heavy rain to the West Coast and Northeast.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the Southwest Monsoon is expected to progress into the remaining parts of West, Central, and East India, as well as areas of Northwest India, over the next 3-4 days. Additionally, monsoon conditions are likely to advance in parts of the north Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and southeastern Rajasthan in the coming days. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated along the West Coast and over Northeast India in the next 4-5 days.
IMD has also cautioned about potential heatwave conditions affecting isolated areas of Jammu division on June 26-27 and in Punjab & West Rajasthan today. Maximum temperatures across Northwest and Central India are expected to remain unchanged over the next two days before decreasing by 2-4°C thereafter.
Meanwhile, IMD has issued an orange alert for rainfall in five districts of Himachal Pradesh on June 29th and 30th. The districts under this alert include Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, and Bilaspur, while a yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts of the state during the same period.
According to IMD, the monsoon will move over Himachal Pradesh over the course of the next three days, bringing rain between June 26 and July 1.
Senior scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma from IMD HP stated, "Between June 28 and July 1, plain areas like Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur, as well as mid-hill areas of Chamba, Kangra, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu, and Mandi districts, are likely to receive rainfall. There is a possibility of yellow alert in some places during this period, and an orange alert has been issued for Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, and Bilaspur districts on 29th and 30th."
He further mentioned, "On June 26th and 27th, districts like Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Kangra, Chamba, and Mandi may experience rainfall, with a yellow alert issued for thunderstorms today and tomorrow."
Sharma emphasized that the monsoon's arrival in Himachal Pradesh is expected within the next three to four days and this year's monsoon is predicted to be normal to above-normal in the state.
