Hyderabad: A dead newborn was found in a garbage dump on Friday (August 16) near Drugs Control Administration in SR Nagar, Hyderabad. The body of the newborn had turned blue in colour and was wrapped in a towel and newspaper.
The baby is identified to be a boy and the umbilical cord had fallen off, so it is identified as it has been nearly two weeks old. A passerby found the baby in the dump and alerted police.
Soon police rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem. As no CCTV or other digital evidence was available at the spot, police are clueless as to who dumped the body.
According to sources, the offender can be punished with imprisonment of either for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both.
This is the second case of infanticide in less than a month. A newborn was seen dragged by a stray dog on the streets of Hindupur city in Anantapur district on June 23 afternoon. According to reports, residents noticed the baby surrounded by the dog near a garbage dump and chased away the canine.
By the time residents came to the rescue, the infant was already dead. Residents later informed Hindupur Police, who examined CCTV footage from cameras installed in surrounding areas, in an attempt to identify the person who had dumped the baby in the garbage pile.
Considering the body was still covered with blood, many believe that the delivery of the child may have taken place within an hour before the body was found.
