Setting politics aside, Congressman Milind Deora was effusive in his praise of the Howdy Modi event. But this has not gone down too well with the Congress as it feels he has not followed the party’s view on the issue.

Later, Kiren Rijiju, a minister in the Prime Minister Modi’s cabinet expressed his pleasure at Milind Deora’s appreciation of the Prime Minister.

While Milind’s gesture won him plaudits, his own party members are not happy with the way he has praised the Prime Minister.

Setting the record straight, he said, "My late father worked closely with Indian Prime Ministers and US presidents - cutting across party lines - in the spirit of bipartisanship... Fortunately, politics at the time was not as confrontational and ungracious as it is today."
He also was very categorical in his approach to issues of national importance.
He added, "For those who have already imagined and chartered my forward path, I wish to give you one unambiguous answer: I will serve my country to the best of my ability and I will remain bipartisan when it comes to issues of national interest and foreign policy... I am my father's son... I will not compromise on my core beliefs even though politics continues to become increasingly uncharitable and partisan."
These reactions by the Congressman have also led to the rumours that he might quit the party and join the BJP. Recently, after the Mumbai drubbing in the Lok Sabha elections, he resigned as the Mumbai chief of the Congress.
It is also reported that he was the first to “muddy the waters” as he suggested the names of Sachin Pilot and Jyotiraditya Scindia for Congress president.
