A law graduate has taken to farming. Here is how she grows strawberries

Bengaluru: What does a law graduate have to do with farming? Well, if you want to know how these two can be related, we have to tell you about a law graduate Gurleen.

She is a resident of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. She is popularly known as ‘Strawberry girl’.

After her graduation in Pune, she took up farming.

She says, “I had never thought that I would go into farming. I came home at the time of lockdown. During this time I used to sit empty at home. I thought why not take advantage of it. I was fond of gardening, so I planted some strawberry plants at home. They started bearing fruits after a few days. These fruits were quite tasty,” as quoted by Dainik Bhaskar.

Her father too gave her a helping hand. They planted strawberry saplings on the land they hold. As fruits were borne, they approached the local market and sold them.

She says, “When the fruits were ready, we approached the local market. They liked our produce. We started supplying it to them. We also ship strawberries to many supermarkets”.

The yield is extremely good. On an average, they produce 70kgs of strawberries everyday. They have also created an online portal to sell the produce.

Gurleen’s success is a fairy tale indeed! With the phenomenal success she has enjoyed, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has made the brand ambassador of strawberries.

In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi too praised her in his Mann Ki Bath.

He said, “Those interested in history will connect this region with Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi. Something different is happening here these days. This should be appreciated. Recently the Strawberry Festival took place in Jhansi. Everyone is surprised about strawberries in Bundelkhand. Jhansi's daughter Gurleen Chawla has played a big role in it.”
