Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth has expressed stiff opposition to the Union home minister’s push for one nation one language. He stated that Tamil Nadu will not be the only state to oppose the imposition.
Chennai: Just days after Union home minister Amit Shah had pushed for one nation one language, actor turned politician Rajinikanth has expressed stiff opposition.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Rajinikanth, who has often supported the BJP, has now chosen to disagree with Union home minister Amit Shah, and said, “no one will accept the imposition of Hindi. Especially in Tamil Nadu.”
He further added, "A common language will help in the progress of our country but India does not have a common language. No one will accept the imposition of Hindi, especially in Tamil Nadu and southern India. Imposing Hindi on non-Hindi speaking states will not be accepted.”
On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, home minister Amit Shah stressed on the ability of the Hindi language to unite the country. He said that it is necessary to have one language which could represent India in the world.
Amit Shah also appealed that Hindi be made the primary language, saying that it is necessary to have one to represent India.
"India is a country of different languages and every language has its own importance but it is very important to have a language which should become the identity of India in the world. If one language can unite the country today, it is the widely-spoken Hindi language," Amit Shah tweeted.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) working president JP Nadda also greeted the nation on the occasion of Hindi day and said: "Hindi is the most widely spoken and understood language across India, which unites all of us in the thread of unity and is also our identity in the world. Wish you all a very Happy Hindi Day. Let us all increase the use of Hindi in our daily lives and inspire others as well."
