A day after requesting the Prime Minister of India to include Tamil in other states, and drawing flak for it, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswami has deleted the tweet
Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had taken to Twitter to recommend the inclusion of the Tamil language in other states as well. However, a day later, this tweet has been deleted.
Palaniswami found himself in soup after he tweeted, “Request Hon'ble PM @narendramodi ji to include Tamil as an optional language for study in other states. This will be a great service to one of the most ancient languages of the world."

Soon after, opposition parties such as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) hit back at Palaniswami for endorsing the three-language formula.
Tamil Nadu has adopted a two-language formula (Tamil and English) in schools. However, sensing the controversy the tweet created, Palaniswami was quick to delete it.
The state of Tamil Nadu was up in arms against the Centre for its National Education Policy draft wherein it made a suggestion that non-Hindi speaking states must learn the language.

The Centre was forced to drop the clause that sought to make teaching Hindi mandatory in all schools as part of the three-language formula, after receiving much flak.
Reiterating that the government had been following the line adopted by CN Annadurai, MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa on the language issue, fisheries minister D Jayakumar said the tweet was withdrawn as it was being politicised “unnecessarily”.

DMK chief MK Stalin had also created a stir saying that Tamil must be made an official language in all Central government offices. Stalin said that the people of Tamil Nadu must take a vow to ensure that the language becomes official in Central government offices.
However, AIADMK has stated that Stalin’s statements are nothing but egotistical. The party further went on to say that the AIADMK had already insisted on this, and that Stalin was merely following the same path.
