Former IPS officer K Annamalai, who joined the BJP earlier this week has been appointed as vice president of the Tamil Nadu unit of the party by its state chief L Murugan
Bengaluru: Former IPS officer K Annamalai, who joined the BJP earlier this week, was on Saturday appointed as vice president of the Tamil Nadu unit of the party by its state chief L Murugan.
Murugan announced Annamalai's appointment in a statement and wished him success in his endeavours.
Annamalai, a mechanical engineer who did MBA from IIM, Lucknow, before joining the civil service, had joined the BJP in Delhi on Tuesday in the presence of BJP national general secretary Muralidhar Rao and later met its national president JP Nadda.
The 2011 batch Karnataka cadre IPS officer had resigned from service in September last year. He hails from an agricultural family in Karur district of Tamil Nadu.
As interesting (perhaps inspiring as well) as it may sound, sources say that Annamalai has been tremendously influenced by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). While he was posted in Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka, sources added that he grew closer to MLA CT Ravi and understood the ideology of the RSS better. He was also interested to know more about Datta Peeta.
Last year, when he had resigned, sources had also stated that Annamalai had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah and had revealed how he was impressed with the RSS and wanted to do something different in life.
It is allegedly based on their approval that he decided to call it quits in the police department.
In his last posting as DCP South, Bengaluru, he had the opportunity, sources added, to meet the RSS bigwigs in their headquarters Keshava Krupa, which also happens to be in Bengaluru South.
