The decision to blood HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy from Mandya has given rise to a lot of rebellion within the party circles. Several youngsters have questioned the top honchos of the party as to why Nikhil was chosen, when there are other worthy candidates
Mandya: Till Monday, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy would have been a happy father. That is son Nikhil Kumaraswamy got a ticket to contest from Mandya, HD Kumaraswamy could not have asked for more.
But on Tuesday, he got the shock of his life when youngsters from Mandya bombarded him with a plethora of questions, asking him as to why he is trying his best to field his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy when there are other worthy candidates.
First on the list is why has Ambareesh’s widow Sumalatha not been given a ticket. If the reasoning is that she is not a karyakarta, consequentially, the youngsters ask why not the same logic against Nikhil Kumaraswamy?
Secondly, a few months ago, a JD(S) karyakarta named Prakash was murdered. Prakash was known to be very close to HD Kumaraswamy and the chief minister himself had attended his funeral. That being the case, the youngsters are asking HD Kumaraswamy why shouldn’t his wife be given a ticket.
Thirdly, the youngsters are also wondering as to why Ashok Jayaram, the son of SD Jayaram, a minister in the HD Deve Gowda state cabinet, hailing from Mandya should not be given a ticket.
The youngsters have also questioned as to why Anita Kumaraswamy was made an MLA as she has not contributed anything to the party in the region.
Lastly, a young karyakarta from JD(S) Kranti Simha who also happens to be the secretary of the youth JD(S) has urged the party to appoint him as a candidate as Nikhil Kumaraswamy doesn’t have the requisite skills.
In all this political melee, former chief minister and Congress senior leader Siddaramaiah has openly said that they would not be fielding anyone from Mandya as the sitting MP from Mandya happens to be from JD(S). Moreover, he added that if Sumalatha wished to contest as a candidate, the Congress would not object.
